The Centre has been in association with the Japanese Peace Boat which conducts voyages around the world based on the floating university concept. It draws groups of students especially from conflict areas, who are put together during segments of the voyage, to gain the benefit of lectures on peace related topics, and enjoy interaction with lectures and the benefit of interaction with the other students on board.
The Centre has for some years provided both students and lecturers for the voyage. This year the Centre provided students and lecturers on the section from Vietnam to Colombo.
On arrival in Colombo the Centre assisted the Peace Boat to organize a major event at the Galle Face Hotel, involving a cultural festival of Japanese and Sri Lankan cultures. It was attended by 500 guests – 250 Japanese and 250 others - and was staged on the terrace of the Galle Face Hotel.
