Youth Empowerment and Legal Awareness Programmes in Ampara and Mannar were successfully concluded

The WICPER successfully concluded two Youth Empowerment and Legal Awareness Programmes in Ampara and Mannar in July 2011. At the programme we raised awareness among the youth about the Courts System of Sri Lanka, Family Law, Criminal Law, Child Rights, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Fundamental Rights, Environmental Law and Sustainable Development, Rural Poverty Reduction and Peace Building.

 

We took extra care in creating a platform for them to speak about them and learn their legal rights and duties and methods of dispute resolution so that we could create a situation through which a peaceful reconciliation process can be found. This ‘common platform will be by youth for youth’. The forum gave an opportunity for them to obtain information about legal documents and laws governing their day to day activities.
