Neshan Gunasekera, Project Director, WICPER was invited to convey the philosophy of the Training For Trusteeship (TFT) workshop as a model with which to improve the leadership in environmental advocacy and policy making at the LEAF conference (Leaders of Environmental Advocacy Forum) organized by Periclean Scholars of the Elon University of North Carolina U.S.A. on the 22nd and 23rd of Jan 2011 Further, a video message by Judge C.G. Weeramantry on the theme “Tread Lightly on the Earth: Religion, the Environment and our Common Future” was shown at the conference.
The Chief Guest H.E. Patricia Butenis, Ambassador, United States also shared her perspectives on the work done by organizations and institutions affiliated with the U.S. Embassy on sustainable development in Sri Lanka and spoke of TFT as a model project. She also stressed the importance of organizing such projects for youth and creating a common platform to discuss issues facing them.
