Memoirs of Judge Weeramantry Launched In Melbourne

The first volume of Judge Weeramantry’s memoirs “Towards One World: The Memoirs of Judge C. G. Weeramantry, Volume I; The Sri Lankan Years” was ceremonially launched in Melbourne at the Box Hill Town Hall on March 26th 2011.


The Event was organized by Mr. Bandu Dissanayake, Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Victoria, Australia and was widely attended by members of the Sri Lankan community and by representatives from Monash, Deakin, Melbourne and LaTrobe Universities.


Professor Joe Camilleri of LaTrobe University, Director of the Centre for Dialogue, introduced the volume, stating that it gave a picture of Sri Lankan society in the years of Judge Weeramantry’s childhood in the 1930s and highlighted its culture and tradition. It was also an introduction to the great global issues of our time such as nuclear weapons, environmental protection and inter-religious dialogue in which the Judge was involved in his later years.


The Centre expresses its appreciation to the Honorary Consul Mr. Bandu Dissanayake for the interest with which he organized this event which was of much significance to the Sri Lankan community in Melbourne.
