Making a Difference, One Life at a Time
Stitch, along with the Rotaract Clubs of Spectrum Institute and Colombo Fort, the Maherakanth Foundation as well as volunteers from the Training for Trusteeship program, under the Weeramantry International Center for Peace, Education and Research conducted a medical camp for the community in the Uswetakeiyawa area in Pamunugama.
The objective of the camp was to provide Spectacles and health services and also educate and make the community aware of basic hygiene methods, which would help them live a better and healthier lifestyle.
This region was selected because of its remoteness, and therefore limited access to medical facilities to the 300 - 400 people living there. The medical camp consisted of doctors who would look into the medical needs of these people and also advise them on disease prevention. Also present were trained nurses and professional pharmacists who were there to administer and provide the necessary medications to the patients. People were also checked by ophthalmologists who would identify those patients with cataract related problems and provide necessary assistance.
As a collaborative effort between four volunteer organizations, the medical camp was a success and was truly a fulfilling experience for the volunteers as they were able to spend the day with the community, helping to make a difference.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Anisha Niyaz and Mr. Mohamed Sikandar - TFT Alumni
