Training for Trusteeship programme of The WICPER was presented as one of the best practices and creative ideas at the ‘V’ Forum coordinated and conducted by the United Nations Volunteers (UNDP) as one of the first IYV+10 steering committee initiatives on the 25th of March 2011 at the Galle Face Hotel.
Following the success of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV) in 2001, the UN General Assembly in 2008 called the celebration of the IYV tenth anniversary (IYV+10) at a national level with national ownership.
One of the first IYV+10 Steering Committee initiatives is the Volunteer Forum, or ‘V’ Forum, to which various stakeholders from the public sector, corporate sector, civil society, the media and volunteers were invited to meet, network, inspire and get inspired.
This event was focused on inspiring the participants with messages of personal involvement in social causes and recognition of the value added to volunteerism.
The WICPER Project Director, Neshan Gunasekera, who was one of the speakers invited to inspire the forum, presented the Annual Training For Trusteeship Programme (TFT) of the WICPER at this forum as one of the best practices and spoke extensively on the significance of the role of young leaders in bridging cross cultural understanding for inter communal harmony through volunteerism in post conflict Sri Lanka.
The forum was also attended by other WICPER representatives as well as TFT Alumni from 2008, 2009 and 2010 workshops.
