An initiative that brings together several likeminded organizations in collaboration with WICPER, interested in conservation, protection and sustaining the rich environmental heritage of Sri Lanka A brief note on the environs involved with this project would include the following. The 4th Training for Trusteeship (TFT) Programme was conducted by the Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Education and Research (WICPER) at the SANASA Education Campus, Kegalle, Sri Lanka from September 4 – 11, 2011. This programme brought together over 70 outstanding young leaders from the South Asian Region and the United States, and they were selected from universities and outstanding youth organizations in their respective countries.
Youth Empowerment and Legal Awareness Project in Mannar

The Third Legal Awareness Program planned for this Year by WICPER is to be held on the 27th to the 28th of July 2011. The objective of this programme, interactively, is to provide the participants with a basic knowledge of their right, duties and responsibilities within the laws governing their day to day lives such as laws relating to family matters, rights of children, labour laws, criminal litigation and fundamental rights as well as methods of dispute resolution within their respective communities. Also the participants are to be exposed to a basic knowledge of the court system of Sri Lanka and the procedures in the courts.

HARNESSING YOUTH IDEALISM FOR SOCIAL ADVANCEMENT The Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Education and Research (WICPER) conducted its annual Training for Trusteeship (TFT) Workshop from September 23-30, 2010 at the MAS Institute in Thulhiriya Sri Lanka. Once more over seventy five young leaders from universities, private tertiary educational institutions and leading youth organizations met together at this unique forum under the theme Harnessing Youth Idealism for Social Advancement. Also, the workshop took into account that the UN had proclaimed 2010 year to be dedicated as the UN Year for Biodiversity and UN Year of Youth.

The concept of trusteeship for the future is fundamental to human welfare, yet scarcely receives attention in today’s educational curricula. This concept, which is stressed alike by religion, philosophy and law, underlines the fact that every generation, far from being in a position of ownership or overlordship, is in a position of trusteeship for generations yet to come. Unfortunately it is the concept of dominion rather than trusteeship which is prevalent throughout the world.
